My New Marketing Guy - MySpace

While all social networks are struggling to find a way to turn traffic into profit, I’ve come to embrace them as my new marketing channel.

As a brand new small business owner, I’ve been looking at all avenues to market my company effectively. Everyone you talk to and come in contact with will tell you the same thing…the best and most effective way to market is by word of mouth. It is free, tried and tested, and effective.

A fellow small-business owner friend of mine is currently launching a new product in the online travel industry (details for another post), and I’ve been consulting with his firm on some marketing strategies on launching his product here in the US.

While I was brainstorming ideas, I thought of MySpace. With a 100 million accounts, it is by far the largest online community out there. And at a fundamental level, a social networking site is nothing but a “word of mouth” portal. You have everyone’s friend Tom, who is a friend of Mike, who in turn works with Sarah whose sister goes to school with you.

Why not create a MySpace profile for your product and infuse virtual life into it by plugging it into the online community. The more you promote it online, the more your prospective user base will grow. And of course you can have fun with it by organizing events, promotions and special deals for all your “friends”.

Again, it costs nothing. Well, here is the profile for Tafri, the product. I think the product is great and will be covering it in greater detail soon. And I’ll keep you updated on how my new marketing guy is doing as well.
